About Ami` Laree

Ami` Laree Hanna-Huff is a poet, watercolorist, and digital media hobbyist from Tennessee. A current SREB fellow and 2023-2024 Art Wire fellow for Oz Arts and the Porch, she is a PhD student at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, studying English with a concentration in Creative Writing.

Extremely personal and teetering on confessional, my voice reflects my experience —the double consciousness of how to mask in differing environments. As I involve my ancestry, creating my body as a vessel to hold experience, I dance between physical and metaphysical worlds and try to uphold the same essence of truth and feeling in their experiences. I interplay between voice and gender in attempts to break language conventions and conceptions of hierarchical language.

Ami` has been a featured writer at the Tennessee State Museum and on their social media. She has poetry and art published online/in-print in "Voices. Elevated: 10 Years of the Elk River Writers Workshop," Coffee People Zine, Drunk Monkeys, Pink Disco, and Moody Zine.
